Cone

Cone#

A cone is a geometric figure formed by a elliptical base. Each point on the base is connected by a straight line to a single point called the apex or vertex. These lines are called generating lines. The perpendicular from the apex to the base of the cone is called the heigth of the cone.

Right circular#

A right circular cone has a circular base and equal generating lines.

The following cell illustrates a right circular cone.

M S l O r h
  • At the base there is a circle with a center, \(O\), and a radius \(r\).

  • The height of the circle intersects the base at point \(O\).

Note: The right circular cone is practically the most popular type of cone in applications. Therefore, we consider its properties of the right circular cone by default.
